日本のひどい三月の天気をがまんしなくてはならなかったから、ブログを読んでいる人もがまんしなくちゃいけません。文句を添えた冴えない写真を見てください。
Jack White at Toyosu Pit
Before I get to the dreariness, here is one bright spot. Jack White brought his solo tour to a large club near me called Toyosu Pit. The show was a mix of The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, and solo songs. It was a great show and the all-ages crowd was very enthusiastic. Although standing through an entire show then working the next morning is not where it’s at.
冴えない写真を見る前に、明るい話題が一つあります。ジャック・ホワイトがソロツアーで私の近所にある豊洲PITという大きなライブハウスにきました。公演はザホワイトストライプとザラカンターズとザデッドウェザーとソロの歌のミックスでした。すばらしくて、全年齢の観客がとても熱狂的に見えました。でも公演中ずっと立っていて、翌朝に仕事に行くのは正直辛かったです。
Dreary Sakura
The end of March was a cold, rainy mess. The cherry blossoms decided to bloom anyway. I trudged out to nearby Chiyoda, home of the famous Tokyo Budokan, armed with my camera, a large umbrella, and grim determination. I got a bunch of depressing photos for my efforts. Hopefully there will be a better opportunity next month.
三月末は雨がたくさん降って寒かったです。それでも桜が咲き始めました。カメラと傘と沈んだ決意を携えて、近所の有名な日本武道館がある千代田区まで行きました。冴えない写真だけ撮りました。来月はもっとよい機会があるといいんですが。
Photos that Require Elaboration
Japanese people seem to love to stand in line. There is a tiny cafe near my apartment called “Butter” with seating for about six people. It is typically empty, but every once in a while a line inexplicably forms and wraps around the cafe.
日本人は行列に並ぶのが大好きなようです。アパートの近くに「Butter」というちっちゃい喫茶店があって、席は六人分位しかありません。たいてい客はあまりいないけれど、時々意味不明に行列ができて店をグルっと囲んでいます。
Speaking of lines, the next photo shows the reason I did not enter the Anime Japan convention this year. I arrived three hours after the show’s opening and the entrance line was still 2000 people strong. I can’t be sure of the number, though, because the line wrapped around the convention center and I never actually saw the end of it before deciding to return home.
行列と言えば、次の写真は今年の「アニメジャパン」というイベントに入らなかった理由を示しています。開場から三時間後に着きましたが、行列には二千人以上いました。実際の人数はわかりません。行列は建物を囲んで会場の外をグルグルと回っていて、最後尾がどこなのか見つける前に帰ることにしたからです。
Finally, I find it amusing when Japanese geeks take photos and videos of new game advertisements in the train stations.
最後に、駅で日本のオタク達が新しいゲームの広告の写真やビデオを撮るのが面白いと思います。
