東京デザインフェスタの典型的の狂騒の後、今月は京都の写真がたくさん見られます。

Some Festas are better than others and this autumn’s event was not the best. But I managed to get some cool live-art shots.
時々フェスタはあまり面白くなくて、この秋のは一番良くなかったです。でもかっこいいライブアートの写真を撮ることができました。
Kyoto 2025
Kyoto Manga Museum
I began my trip at the Kyoto Manga Museum. They had a new exhibition of war-time comics (no photography was allowed, though.) I tried to get some reading done, but I started nodding off after 30 minutes or so. The museum has a new mascot. I don’t know what it is, but the top of it is a fountain pen.
京都国際マンガミュージアムから京都の旅行を始めました。撮影禁止の戦争の時の漫画の展示がありました。少し読みたかったけれど三十分後にウトウトし始めました。ミュージアムには新しい マスコットが い/あり ます。何かわからないけれど上の部分は万年筆になっています。
Saihouji
Saihouji (also known as Kokedera or “The Moss Temple”) is famous for its garden containing more than 100 varieties of moss. Over-tourism has forced the temple to limit access but the hoops I had to jump through were worth it.
苔寺としても知られる西芳寺は100以上の苔の種類がある庭で有名です。 観光客がたくさん来すぎるから入場制限を強いられますが、手続きをしてでも行く価値があります。
Ninnaji
Ninnaji is a buddhist temple that dates back to the 800’s. It is famous for its wood buildings and 5-storey pagoda.
仁和寺という寺院は８００年代に建てられました。木造建築物と五重塔で有名です。
Ryouanji
No trip to Kyoto is complete without a stop at my favorite rock garden.
いつも京都に行くと一番好きな石庭がある竜安寺を訪ねます。
Daitokuji
Daitokuji is one of the largest temple complexes in Kyoto, a fact I wish I had known before I scheduled too little time to see its amazing buildings and gardens.
大徳寺は京都の大規模な寺院群の一つです。残念なことに十分な時間をスケジュールしなかったから素敵な建物と庭を全部見られませんでした。
I had enough time to enjoy some solitude at its rock garden. (I feel like this garden’s designer saw the understated garden at Ryouanji and said “This garden will have even bigger rocks and even taller gravel waves!”)
一人で石庭で静かな時間を楽しみました。（この石庭のデザイナーは竜安寺のを見て「この庭のほうが大きい石があって高い砂利の波がある！」と言ったのではと感じます。）
And I toured the amazing garden inside the Oubaiin sub temple.
大徳寺の塔頭・黄梅院にある素晴らしい庭も訪ねました。
Heian-jingu Shrine
My final stop was the Heian-jingu Shrine. Even though some of its large buildings were under renovation, the fall foliage near the garden’s wood bridge was fair compensation.
最後に平安神宮でした。大きい建物の一部は改修中でしたが、庭の木橋の隣の美しい紅葉は十分にその埋め合わせをしてくれました。
