The number of people infected with Corona in Japan stayed flat all month so I spent most of my free time either reading or doing outdoor photography. At the end of the month I took a bit of a risk to catch a concert and to try and maintain my sanity.
日本の新型コロナウイルスの感染者数が変化しなかったから、暇な時はほとんど読書をしたり、外に出て写真を撮ったりしました。正気を維持するために、月末に少し危険を犯してステージを観に行きました。
Meguro
Unfortunately, I was late for the cherry blossoms along the Meguro river. But the 500 stone Buddhas at Daienji were pretty cool.
残念なことに目黒川通りの桜には遅れてしまいました。でも大円寺の500石仏像はとてもかっこよかったです。
Ebisu
What Ebisu lacks in scenic photo spots it makes up for in its relaxed vibe. Maybe that’s because the central pavilion was created by one of Japan’s biggest beer brewers.
恵比寿はいい撮影の場所があまりないけれど、リラックスできる雰囲気がありました。日本の大きいビール会社の一つによって中央パビリオンが建てられたからかもしれません。
Shibuya
My goal in Shibuya was to ascend to the top of the Magnet building and take photos of the famous Scramble crosswalk from its observation deck. The deck was closed that day due to some J-pop idol event. I decided to skip the escalator and walk back down and discovered the entire stairwell was home to some impressive murals.
渋谷での目的は「Magnet」というデパートの上の展望台に昇って「Scramble」という有名な横断歩道の写真を撮ることでした。でも何らかのJ-popのアイドルのイベントのせいで展望台が閉まりました。 エスカレーターを辞めて歩いて降りることにしたら、階段沿いに面白い壁画がたくさんあることを発見しました。
Ikebukuro
I eschewed the crowded shopping district in Ikebukuro and found a couple of cool shrines.
池袋の込んでいる商店街エリアを避けたら、面白い神社を見つけました。
Mejiro
There’s not a lot to say about Mejiro. It has a nice but small park.
目白についてはちょっと。。。あまり言うことがありません。でも小さいけれどきれいな公園があります。
Takadanobaba
Takadanobaba is home to a thriving nightlife scene. But during the day there are a few cool shrines to see. The Shinjuku Suwa Shrine had one of the biggest, heaviest-looking roofs I’ve ever seen.
高田馬場にはにぎやかな夜の街があります。でも昼には面白い神社が2、3見られます。新宿諏訪神社の屋根は、今まで見た中で1番大きくてすごく重そうに見えます。
Kikulatte
My language exchange partner Kazumi Suzuki and her band Kikulatte did a set at a local progressive rock club. Even though I was stuck in the back of the audience, I managed to sneak a couple of good photos.
地元のプログレッシブ・ロック音楽のライブで、言語交換の相手の鈴木和美さんのキクラテというバンドがステージをしました。観客の後ろにしか立てなかったけれど、いい写真をちょっと撮れました。
