December this year had two stories. The first was my move to a new apartment. The second was the construction of my first ever home-built PC. If you like pictures of boxes and the insides of computers, then this is the post for you.
十二月はストーリーが二つありました。 一つ目は新しいアパートに引っ越すのです。 二目は初めの自作パソコンです。 箱の写真とパソコンの中の写真が好きだったらこの更新がいいだと思います。
Policies and Procedures
Last month I should have written something about my new job, but I appear to have forgotten. It is a pretty standard technical writing job. I work for the IT security department and have to document IT policies and procedures so that we can comply with various sets of regulations. My boss is very laid back and my coworkers are friendly. I doubt there will be many dramatic stories, but it is a decent, steady job.
先月新しい仕事について書けばよかったですけど忘れると思います。 普通なテクニカルライティングの仕事です。 ITセキュリティー部に働いて法令の遵守のために政策と手順を書いています。 上司はのんびりで同僚はフレンドリーです。 苦しくないだと思います。
Move On
On the first weekend of December I moved into a new apartment. A moving company did all the heavy lifting and my mom and her best friend did an amazing job of setting up my kitchen. I mostly directed people on where to stack my many boxes.
十二月の第一週目の週末に新しいアパートに引っ越しました。 引越し会社は重い物を全部持っていきました。 お母さんと友達はキッチンを準備をしました。 私はたくさんの箱を積まれるの場所を指しました。
As predicted, my commute is much shorter. The garage is great for reducing the annoyance of Ohio winters. The apartment is more than big enough to hold all of my stuff. It will take a long time to unpack all of my boxes, but I got the “computer corner” set up, and that is enough for now.
通勤はもっと短くなりました。 ガレージはオハイオの冬の迷惑を減らすのがいいです。 私の物を含むのためにアパートは大きさがいいです。 箱を全部開けるのが時間がたくさんかかるけどパソコンのコーナーが完了だから今がいいです。
Evil Triumphs
One of the advantages of my apartment is that it is 45 minutes closer to my friends in Ann Arbor. I wanted to get out for a visit before the predicted snows fell, I headed North the weekend after my move, The food and conversation were as good as always. Jim and I failed to save the world from annihilation in the board game Eldritch Horror. Then I failed to save Europe from Jim’s vampiric dominance in Fury of Dracula.
新しいアパートのほうがアンアーバーに住んでいる友達の家に４５分近いです。 雪の前訪ねたかったから引っ越すの後一週間北に行きました。 食物も会話もいつもよかった。 ジームと言う友達とボードゲームを二つして私は負けました。
It’s Alive!
Ever since I bought my first PC in 1989 I have wanted to build my own. I intended to build one while I lived in Japan because my favorite stomping grounds, Akihabara, was full of PC parts stores. But I was never able to spend the money or dedicated the time.
1989年にパソコンを買って始めたらパソコンを自作したいです。 日本に住む時秋葉原はコンピューター部品の店がたくさんあるけど時間とお金が足りなかったです。
During the months leading up to my move, I diligently researched all of the latest hardware and created a plan using www.tomshardware.com/ and http://pcpartpicker.com/. Soon after moving, I ordered all the parts on-line and they arrived in a myriad of boxes. Added to all the boxes from my move, I could barely move through the apartment for about a week.
引っ越すの前月に新しいハードウェアを勉強して予定が作りました。 引っ越すの後部品をインターネットで買ってたくさんの箱の中にもらいました。 その箱と引っ越すの箱がたくさんあるから一週間にアパートの中に歩けませんでした。
Unpacked and laid out, I realized how much frustrating work I had ahead of me. It took about three evenings and an entire Saturday, but I managed to piece it together.
箱を開いてテーブルの上に部品を置いたら大変な労力がたくさんあるとわかりました。 三泊と土曜日をかかったでも終わりました。
Lo and behold, I had a top of the line PC that dual boots both Windows and Ubuntu. Even better, I could finally play “Portal,” a puzzle game I have wanted to try ever since 2007.
今WindowsとUbuntuが使えるのすごくいいパソコンがあります。 そして「Portal]と言うゲームができます。 2007年からこのパズルのゲームがほしかったです。

Because the prices of PCs have dropped so much in the last few years, and because of all hard work required, I do not think I would build an other PC. However, I am glad I did it once. I feel like I earned a geek-badge I should have gotten years ago.

Oh Yeah, Christmas
I nearly forgot! I spent Christmas Day at my sister’s house with her family and my mom. It being our first Christmas without my father, I felt a little sad most of the day. But my sister’s kids had a good time and the food was great as always. Obviously, my Christmas present to myself was the new PC, but I also received a blender and rice cooker.
忘れました! 妹の家家族とクリスマスはのんびりしました。 初めのお父さんがいないクリスマスがあるからちょっと悲しかったです。 でもおいはうれしくて美味しい食物がたくさんありました。 もちろん私のプレゼントは新しいパソコンです。 ブレンダーと炊飯器をもらいました。
