March 2022 – Toris Abound

The pandemic rages on in Japan, but the weather turned nice enough for some outdoor sightseeing. This month I have a small selection of photos from around Tokyo.

日本でパンデミックは継続をしているけれど、外の観光が出来るほどいい天気の日がありました。今月、東京の写真が少しあります。

Brad About Town

First, I strolled around Tamachi, home to one of my offices, which I’ve not entered in two years. Tamachi is not known for sightseeing, but I stumbled on Keio University’s Mita campus, which looks like it was imported from Europe a century or two ago.

最初、二年間勤務する中でまだ1度も入ったことのない田町の事務所のまわりを散歩しました。田町は観光では有名じゃないけれど、偶然、一二世紀前にヨーロッパから輸入されたみたいな慶應義塾大学の三田キャンパスを見つけました。

Takanawa Gateway is the newest station on the Yamanote Line, which loops around the center of the city. There, I visited Sengakuji temple. The copious English signage told the story of the Akō incident, wherein 47 ronin sought revenge against a court official, then committed seppuku on the temple grounds.

高縄ゲートウエイは東京の周りの山手線の一番新しい駅です。そこで泉岳寺を訪ねました。沢山の英語の標識には赤穂事件の物語が説明してありました。それは四十七人の浪人が上野介を殺してお寺で切腹をした話です。

Shinagawa is home to a couple of cool shrines with a bunch of stone statues.

品川は石の像がある面白い神社がいくつかあります。

Finally, I returned to Osaki, an area where I worked every morning for several years. From the station, you can spot the top of the hat of a Disneyesque dwarf statue, which I always meant to take a closer look at.

遂に、以前に二、三年間、毎朝仕事をした大崎に戻りました。駅からディズニーっぽいこびとの像の帽子の上が見られます。いつも近くからよく見たかった物です。
