August 2025 – An Omnibus of Odori

The August heat once again failed to melt me into the sidewalk. In defiance, I attended a few festivals featuring traditional Japanese dance.

八月の暑気はまた私を歩道に溶かしませんでした。反対に伝統的な踊りがあった祭に行きました。

Nakameguro Summer Festival

This first night of this festival featured awa odori, the revel Bradblog readers see every year in August from Koenji. Although a much smaller parade, the live music and energetic dancers were highly entertaining.

この祭の初日の夜は、このブログを読んでいる人が毎年八月に見ている高円寺阿波踊りを見ました。規模はずっと小さい行進でしたが、ライブ音楽と元気に踊っている人達が面白かったです。

The second night focused on Yosako dance. These dancers dress in more colorful, modern costumes and use pre-recorded music. Although I preferred the previous evening, the giant flags were pretty cool.

祭りの2日目によさこいを見ました。この踊っている人達のほうが多彩でモダンな服を着ていて、録音済みの音楽を使っていました。前日の晩のほうが好きだったけれど、大きい旗がかっこよかったです。

Koenji Awa Odori

Through various machinations, I had a much better vantage point for my favorite festival this year and my photos turned out great. The first is of a former English conversation student of mine.

いろいろと工夫をした結果、今年のほうが、一番好きな祭をよりよい位置から見ることができ、撮った写真が良かったです。始めの写真は、以前の英会話生徒です。
