July 2022 – Shibuya at Night

An incredible heat wave began in Tokyo this month. That and the Japanese government’s request to minimize electricity consumption kept me confined to my bedroom for much of the daytime. I ventured forth after sundown, however, and grabbed a few interesting photos.

今月、東京ですごい猛暑が始まりました。これと日本の政府の電力消費を下げる要求のせいで、日中は部屋に閉じこもっていました。日暮れの後でかけて面白い写真を少し撮りました。

Shibuya at Night

I was not satisfied with my first attempt at shooting Shibuya in the dark. It is much more impressive in person. I look forward to trying again on cooler nights.

夜に渋谷の写真を撮る初めての試みには満足しませんでした。直接見るほうが素敵です。もっと涼しい晩に試して楽しみます。

Kazumi Suzuki’s 20th Anniversary Live Performance

My friend Kazumi, a flautist, held a concert to celebrate 20 years of performing live. The show started with a cute video review of her career, followed by a performance of her current progressive rock band, a set from a friend’s jazz band, and finally a reunion of her band from earlier in the 2000’s.

和美と言うフルート演奏者の友達は活動20年間の記念の上演をしました。ショーは今までのキャリアを思い返す可愛いビデオから始まり、次に今のプログレッシブロックのバンドが演奏をしました。そして友達のジャズバンドが演奏しました。最後に、2000年代初期からのバンドが再開しました。

Highlights included one performer eating a beef bowl in time with the music while enclosed in a Covid-proof, inflatable face mask and a custom Kit-Kat for every attendee.

面白かったのは、音楽と同時に牛丼を食べつつコロナを守る膨張式マスクをしている人がいたこと、出席者のそれぞれに配られたオリジナルのキットカットでした。
