This month, I spent too much money on photography equipment.<\/p>\n

The Olden Days<\/h2>\n

I have always been the sort of person who hangs on to things for a long time. However, my time in Japan and my advancing age has changed my attitude on possessions. These days, my goal is to eliminate clutter while retaining memories. <\/p>\n

\u79c1\u306f\u601d\u3044\u51fa\u306e\u54c1\u3092\u305f\u304f\u3055\u3093\u6301\u3063\u3066\u3044\u308b\u4eba\u3067\u3059. \u3067\u3082\u65e5\u672c\u306b\u4f4f\u3080\u306e\u3068\u5e74\u3092\u53d6\u3063\u3066\u3044\u308b\u304b\u3089\u611f\u60c5\u304c\u5909\u66f4\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f. \u3053\u306e\u3054\u308b\u76ee\u7684\u306f\u899a\u3048\u3092\u5b88\u3063\u3066\u4e71\u96d1\u3092\u6e1b\u3089\u3057\u305f\u3044\u3067\u3059.<\/p>\n

While living with my Mom, we worked on scanning old photographs and digitizing old video tapes. This month, I began doing the same thing with my old scrapbooks.<\/p>\n

\u304a\u6bcd\u3055\u3093\u3068\u4f4f\u3093\u3067\u3044\u308b\u3068\u53e4\u3044\u5199\u771f\u3092\u30b9\u30ad\u30e3\u30f3\u3057\u3066\u5bb6\u65cf\u306e\u30d3\u30c7\u30aa\u3092\u30c7\u30a3\u30b8\u30bf\u30a4\u30ba\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f. \u4eca\u6708\u53e4\u3044\u5207\u308a\u629c\u304d\u5e33\u3082\u30c7\u30a3\u30b8\u30bf\u30eb\u5199\u771f\u3092\u53d6\u308a\u307e\u3057\u305f.<\/p>\n

Starting in college, I began making scrapbooks to hold photos, magazine articles, and my own writing. It was a habit I continued into my early thirties, so now I have a stack of 15 monstrous tomes. These books hold a lot of great memories and keepsakes. However, they also hold a lot of information about bands, actors, and authors I no longer care about. (The 20-year-old me was much more interested in celebrities than the 46-year-old me.)<\/p>\n

In addition, the Internet has made all of the magazine articles and celebrity photos redundant. If I want to know anything about Madonna, Wikipedia can tell me.<\/p>\n

\u305d\u3057\u3066\u30a4\u30f3\u30bf\u30fc\u30cd\u30c3\u30c8\u304b\u3089\u305d\u306e\u3088\u3046\u306a\u60c5\u5831\u304c\u4f59\u5270\u306b\u306a\u308a\u307e\u3057\u305f. \u30de\u30c0\u30ca\u306b\u3064\u3044\u3066\u4f55\u304b\u77e5\u308a\u305f\u304b\u3063\u305f\u3089\u30a6\u30a3\u30ad\u30da\u30c7\u30a3\u30a2\u3067\u8aad\u3081\u307e\u3059.<\/p>\n

So I decided to digitize these scrapbooks, saving only the most important pages. The books are way too big for a scanner but my fancy camera was up to the job. To take so many photos, though, I needed a tripod and a couple of lights with light stands.<\/p>\n

\u305d\u308c\u304b\u3089\u5207\u308a\u629c\u304d\u5e33\u3092\u4e00\u756a\u5927\u5207\u306e\u30da\u30fc\u30b8\u3092\u6301\u3063\u3066\u3044\u3066\u30c7\u30a3\u30b8\u30bf\u30a4\u30ba\u3059\u308b\u3053\u3068\u306b\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f. \u30b9\u30ad\u30e3\u30ca\u30fc\u306e\u70ba\u306b\u5927\u304d\u3044\u3059\u304e\u308b\u3051\u3069\u79c1\u306e\u9ad8\u3044\u30ab\u30e1\u30e9\u306f\u5927\u4e08\u592b\u3067\u3057\u305f. \u5199\u771f\u3092\u305f\u304f\u3055\u3093\u53d6\u308b\u70ba\u306b\u30c8\u30e9\u30a4\u30dd\u30c3\u30c9\u3068\u4e8c\u3064\u306e\u96fb\u6c17\u304c\u5fc5\u8981\u3067\u3057\u305f.<\/p>\n

Even with the lights, my apartment was still too dark. I had to break down and build a light box out of one of my moving boxes.<\/p>\n

\u65b0\u3057\u3044\u96fb\u6c17\u306e\u306b\u30a2\u30d1\u30fc\u30c8\u306f\u6697\u3059\u304e\u307e\u3057\u305f. \u5f15\u8d8a\u3059\u308b\u306e\u7bb1\u304b\u3089\u30e9\u30a4\u30c3\u30c8\u30dc\u30c3\u30af\u30b9\u3092\u4f5c\u3089\u306a\u304f\u3061\u3083\u3044\u3051\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3067\u3057\u305f.<\/p>\n

With all this in place I got down to the job of photographing all the pages of the scrapbooks. Which turned out to be drudgery of the first order. Luckily, I discovered that Youtube has a number of full Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes uploaded and they kept me company during the job.<\/p>\n
