August was a long, hot, dull month. The only interesting thing I did was visit the Cleveland Aquarium with my family.<\/p>\n

Cleveland Aquarium<\/p>\n

On the 9th, my family and I traveled to an area of Cleveland known as “The Flats.” This is a low lying area on the Cuyahoga River that, before World War II, was heavily industrial and famous for steel mills. After the war, the warehouses turned into bars and nightclubs and The Flats became famous for its nightlife. The Flats’ popularity rises and falls and today it is only somewhat popular.<\/p>\n

A new aquarium opened in the famous Powerhouse, which used to create electricity for Cleveland’s cable cars, Although not huge, it has quite a few displays of sharks, jellyfish, and turtles.<\/p>\n

The most interesting exhibit is the manta ray pool. You can touch and feed these rays. To feed them, you must hold some raw fish and dunk your hand deep into the water. Because the rays’ eyes are on top of their bodies and their mouths are underneath, finding your food is a little tricky for them. So, the rays bump their heads on your forearm, the bump them again a little bit lower, then bump them again a little bit lower until their mouths finally find the fish.<\/p>\n
